They are still requiring masks and distancing at my local theatres. I used to go every week, with a handful of friends. I refuse to go with those rules in place.

Queues will not be a problem; seats will mostly be reserved online. Cost of cashiering virtually eliminated; payment made online. Rents reduction is huge; real estate owners are under great pressure to lower prices or sit empty. Watching at home is simply a different experience; watching at home works for only a percentage of the people a percentage of the time. Alcohol, food and soft drink sales will become a bigger source of revenue. Caving to Universal would result in the same system for others; stand strong and Universal will compromise. Home schooled children and home workers will make matinees popular. Educational movies may see a resurgence.

Too big to fail, too stupid to realize it's not true…

Nah. Not worth it. I'd rather have a beer and popcorn on my La-Z-Boy.

I live in the nyc area and the AMC and the Regal in Times Sq are great places to catch a movie but after how much death there has been in this area caused by COVID, i doubt many people will be rushing to go back to the movies anytime soon and risk getting exposed. It's safer just to stream movies at home. Not to mention it's also cheaper. Total combined price of going to the movies in this area is insane (transport to/from cinema, ticket, food or snacks).

The people in this comments section seem very lonely or are grown past theaters. I’m neither!

Such a shame and closing them for this long was very unnecessary

@mrhreviews remember that AMC is owned by someone – that someone is not doing so well upon the world stage at the present moment – perhaps discovering who that someone is that owns the AMC brand would be very interesting to you – give it a look good sir – always a fan and another great video good sir – keep up the great work – Cheers~

For the most part, I think we've cancelled Hollywood. Ticket prices, popcorn, pop, have been way overpriced for years. The last movie I saw was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and before that, I don't remember. Between the nonsense coming from celebs during covid and the riots, I consider them non essential.

What? You have to stand in line for hours outside the grocery stores? Like in the Soviet Union? Here in Germany, even during the worst lockdown we could just walk into the store and buy our groceries.

I don’t care if cinemas stay closed until December…….then reopen for DUNE 🙏🏼🎬⏰

I would actually join a protest that involved sitting in air conditioning and watching movies. I would even buy expensive popcorn and whatnot to donate to the cause. Make feedbags filled with popcorn for the CNN fans who want to remain mask-compliant.

We have a new 8 screen theater waiting to open after all this but I don't think there's going to be anything worth watching. Our two-screener in town barely kept in business.

I dont think people will be interested in going to the cinemas anymore, so yeah they are screwed either way, and i agree about the shopping! I'm from the UK too, waiting in line for an hour all the time, it's doing my head in, I'll do it for food, but entertainment no chance.

I said too my friend before the virus cinema theaters are dying ! How can you go on with empty theaters for ever especially in smaller areas. I think we will lose all the big complexes and just have them in citys and in smaller areas you might see the old style come back .

Netflix /streaming plus chaeper 50inch TVs plus the virus is killing it.

It's sad because I enjoy it and would hate too close it.

Not at all surprised of this… The AMC theater near me ( New York , USA) was closed long before the COVID19 pandemic due to a rodent infestation!! I doubt many people would ever go back there , even if they were able to get rodent free…I know I won't be…. AMC is a theater franchise that seems to be on the way out …

I’m not going to a physical theater or a gym anymore. I bought a home theater and home gym which are both top notch. I’ll invite the friend or family I care to have over to enjoy either but mostly I’ll just appreciate it alone.

This is Hollywoods fault theater attendance was already going down due to all the sjw propaganda in ever single movie and the lack of quality and passion people notice that stuff and dont want to pay to be lectured to

Don't care about AMC tanking. They're owned by the CCP, so they can fuck-off.

Cinemas got reopened in The Netherlands on the first of June. Completely downscaled when it comes to the amount of visitors per screening, but it is getting upscaled on the first of July. One more lockdown and almost every cinema will be completely fucked

I guess universal can put a close to the discussion of partnership with amc since the situation solved itself.
