Now that we know they are safe and clean let’s get everyone we know to see Tenet opening weekend and it can bring back the film industry. THEY NEED THAT!

l think open the movie theaters next month is a bad idea, probably more people are going to get infected because when people want to eat their popcorn they have to take out their mask and if someone who is infected coughs more people are going to get infected…

Between Netflix, Amazon Prime videos and Disney+, I'm not going back to the movies and I've been an AMC member since I've worked at one and became a movie watcher member.

The video is right about one thing. If AMC theaters can't enforce their policies (before covid 19), how do you expect them to enforce these new guidelines that are required to reopen?

It’s my part time job and I’m in aviation school so yes I would love for them to reopen lol. I live in Texas and cases have spiked but honestly I haven’t heard about many deaths. Still we should move with precaution.

I will wait and see how it goes. The number of those with virus here in Florida has increased. Thank you for this information.

I can already tell you that they'll probably disinfect the handrails along the walls / stairs in all the theaters , the bathroom sink counters , the soda / butter stand counters. There's no way the larger theaters can disinfect every single seat , we're talking 400 + seats in some auditoriums even at 30% that's still 120 seats. The smaller ones with recliners that only have about 100 seats might though.
I dont think AMC will survive at 30-50% capacity sales and reduced concessions tbh. I work at an AMC and even before corona virus they were always complaining that we were under budget , under sales , etc. etc.

Why would they open up in the middle of the second wave of Corona.

You are absolutely right about "requiring masks". The CDC guidelines are a better directive to follow rather than the ramblings of someone else who would suggest that wearing a mask is expressing displeasure with him. If AMC had simply referred to the CDC guidelines rather than mentioning "political" side of things or even the word, it would have saved them a lot of bad press. Don't get me started on their response to Universal releasing Trolls online rather than the supposed contract with AMC about AMC getting movies like that first run.

I will not be giving any theater a single dollar if they can't be bothered to actually enforce policies that aid public health during the pandemic. I'm fine waiting and watching things at home. Wearing masks is not a political statement. It's common sense. It's basic respect for other human beings.

My wife and I have begun slowly reintegrating ourselves into public life. We live in the Detroit area. We go out to restaurants (we try to go to ones with outdoor seating or with open windows that circulate natural air). We're taking a vacation up north, where we'll stay at a rental home but take a day out to visit Mackinac Island (a tourist location where you can spend the day largely all outdoors). But even though I love movie theaters and have had a nice little side gig as a critic for the last 15 years, I don't feel safe setting foot in one yet. Sitting in a closed room with no windows with strangers just seems like the worst possible environment unless it adheres to the strictest safety measures. And I don't trust my fellow filmgoers to wear masks (because I can't even trust them to turn off their phones). So, I can't foresee myself heading into a theater at least until late fall unless stronger procedures are in play.
As for Tenet — yes, I want to see it. Badly. I also know that in winter, barring a second wave that shuts everything down again, WB will try to make up for lost money by re-releasing it around for awards consideration. So there will be opportunities to see it.

No way this is going to make me feel comfortable going to a theatre. People are too selfish in the US to wear a mask and wash their hands more often.

I agree with all your points and your thoughts on the influence of the politicized nature and decision. Which if I am being generous, says to me that they may not be in such a strong financial position and can not afford to alienate any segment until the comfort level is established.

Like I said I am being generous, but I also morally am disappointed. So, I flipped from being on the fence of keeping my AMC Stub as a small token of support to the movie industry until I felt it was safe to go back to the theatres (also want to only see Tenet)… to cancelling my subscription in response to this decision.

I understand that a CEO and a Corporation has a responsibility that differs from mine. However, that understanding does not equal me being complicit in something I vehemently disagree with.

    Hey… at 12:46.. did you drop a Batman v Superman quote? tsk…tsk…

Very interesting. I work for a theater company that wants to reopen but is being very cautious about it, to which I agree. Some outlines have already been established including mask being required and temperature check for everyone entering the building. The pressure to open up businesses and make up for lost time is real but should be done with long term consequences in mind. Thanks for the video rundown, keep up the good work!

It is definitely not enough. Also, the fact that they are not even going to try to make wearing masks mandatory is ridiculous, and I will not reward their bad behavior with my money.

I live in NYC, across the street from the largest IMAX screen in the area. We have to wear masks whenever we leave our apartments. But mask wearing has been lax of late, and long before the pandemic my local theater could hardly enforce policing of asshole behavior. Plus, the AMC policy states you don't have to wear your mask while eating or drinking, which seems obvious, but still represents a risk. I'm quite certain masks will be mostly ditched once the lights dim regardless of whether people are eating or drinking.
Good luck going to a Tuesday at 10AM screening. I won't take that risk, especially after what I've had to endure living here during the pandemic.

I live in Austin, and the only convenient theaters for me are Alamo Draft Houses. Until they open, I am not going to back to movie theaters. Alamo Draft House has always been really good at making sure assholes aren't in the theater, so if they decide to open back up with strict social distancing and mask policies, I will consider going to one of them, at least to see Tenet.

I'm gonna be curious to see how well cinemas do when they re-open, obviously there'll be reduced returns compared to before but so many people have said they don't feel comfortable going to one for at least a few months. Tenet which had the potential to be one of the highest grossing films of the year could well be a total flop if nobdody's going to the cinema. Interesting times.
