My black eyes were the bomb and I didn't add any meat my family always dress up fancy too. I never made pigs feet but it was always a New Years tradition with greens and the black eyed peas.

I remember going to a plantation when they had a model of the food our ancestors ate. The plate had cornbread, black eyed peas, and greens which my mom makes every new year without fail. I am so thankful for the traditions passed down and loved hearing stories of how my mom cooked with her grandma all the time. I don't understand why people say Black Americans don't have a "culture" when everyone keeps stealing from it. Also, I noticed so many influential black people from various fields, died in 2020. It was 95 people on the list and I told a friend I felt like black culture is really dying.

My people ate good. Momma cooked it all; black eyed peas, candy yams, cabbage, cornbread and chitlins… momma knows I use herbs and oils and candles calls me a voodoo woman… lol we find common spiritual ground through the food. I appreciate it all. We have tradition! Don’t let them take it away from us.
