(January 1, 2021 - 7:18 pm)I'm far more appreciative of Fitz than some others. Last year during this rebuild, when this team released all their top players and had record-high undrafted players playing on the field, Fitz was there leading them.
When they couldn't run the ball at all, Fitz was their leading rusher for all of 2019 and some of 2020. When they couldn't stop anyone, he rallied for scores. Fitz gave the team hope, identity and carried the team to 5 wins (should have been 7 to equal previous year before clearing house) with passer ratings which led NFL for several weeks. Several 400+ yard winning games.
He beat NE on the road in a game Pats needed with precision, clutch passing. Tua may be the future, but Fitz was the heart of the team. The other players love him. Praise him on every podcast.
Through his six games, Fitz had a 70.1 percent completion rate with 1,535 yards, 10 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, giving him a 95.0 passer rating. According to ESPN’s Quarterback Rating, Fitzpatrick has a 79.6 score out of 100, the seventh-highest rating in the league. Last 16 NFL games: Passing 4,347- 2nd QBR 73.5- 5th TD passes 27- Tied for 6th. He had three 300+ yard games in a row before Tua was put in. (Had to see what Tua was made of.)
Fitz set NFL and franchise passing records despite being also the team's leading rusher. That's astonishing. Fitz also set a career high in completion percentage at 68.5 and his passer rating of 95.6 was his second-highest, behind only the 100.4 he posted in 2018 while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
To put what Fitzpatrick did in 2020 in perspective, his passer rating is the highest for a Dolphins quarterback with at least 100 pass attempts since 2008 when Chad Pennington posted a mark of 97.4.
Flores says… "I don’t know if there’s anybody who has been more instrumental in trying to instill a culture and embody a lot of the things we’re looking for from a toughness, competitiveness, team first (standpoint)."
